Welcome to Our Active Flag section!
We hope to increase activity levels in the school this year in lots of different fun ways. We have already made a start and there is a lot more to come. During Maths 2016 we went on a maths trail which meant we had to get up and go outside to find the answers, exercise during Maths!
During PE the week before Halloween we did some scary warm up exercises like Zombie sit ups, axe man runs and spider walks! We had lots of fun practising our technique.
On the Friday of mid-term the whole school got out and got active in the Halloween parade and students from first to sixth walked all the way to the community centre and back to showcase their lovely costumes while also getting some exercise in!
Move it Monday started on the first day back after mid-term break. All students did some exercises out in the yard at 9.20 to wake themselves up before school started. They were helped by Ms.Breen.
As part of our Active School programme for the year we took part in a fun run and obstacle course on the last day before the Christmas holidays. We had great fun taking part in activies like saucers and spaceships, ladder runs, skipping, throw the hoop and the Twelve Days of Fitness to name just a few! Below are some pictures from the day. We are making a big effort to increase our activity levels during the school day and it would be great if it could be encouraged at home too.
Move it Monday
Move it Monday has really taken off since January! Every Monday morning, Ms. Breen meets the children in the yard and instead of everyone going inside she gets the whole school moving for 5 minutes by doing exercises on the spot. The children have shown lots of enthusiasm towards it and they love getting that extra few minutes to wake their bodies up for a busy day ahead. Here are some pictures of us getting active on Monday mornings!
An Active Journey through Wexford & The Mountain Skipping Challenge
Children around the school have been participating in the Active Journey around Wexford as a warm up for PE, after a wet break or simply as a quick break between subjects! They really enjoy it and have even added some of their own in. The skipping challenge is currently being attempted by Ms Breen’s students. Every skip = I metre, the first few mountains were easy to climb, but we suspect they will become more difficult!
More active lunchtimes
Since Mark’s visit from Skip n Rope, activity on the yard during break and lunchtime has reached an all-time high. We are delighted to see the children getting out and making the most of the time they have outside. The older children have been making use of the large rope and engaging in group skipping while many others are focusing on improving the tricks Mark taught them during his visit. Below are some pictures of our very active lunchtimes with smiles to be seen all around.
