Santa Charity Christmas Cards - St Martin Apostolate

As this is the season of giving, our resident elf is busy making post boxes for each classroom so that our pupils can safely exchange Christmas cards. Last date for posting is Friday 18th December after which the post boxes will remain untouched for 72 hours before the class teachers will distribute the cards.

 Spellings for me

Spellings for me is our new individualised spellings programme. It has been rolled out from 2nd class to 6th class and we are loving the way this programme involving both digital and physical methods of practicing spellings, is enhancing teaching and learning in the school. Have a look at www.spellingsforme.ie for more details.

IXL

We will be using ixl.com to practice tables, number facts and lots of other mathematical exercises as well as English grammar in the coming weeks. We are loving how the digital world can enhance teaching and learning in Oylegate NS. Please see www.ixl.com for more details.

The academic year 2017/2018 was a fantastic one full of fun, excitement, hellos to new pupils and staff members and unfortunately a sad and fond good bye to Connie Shanahan who had been an SNA in the school for eight years. We wish her the very best of luck in her future career and we hope she comes back to visit whenever she can. The school has a new principal; Fergal Ó Seochrú.
Some wonderful initiatives and activities took place throughout the year:
  • Rackard League Football and Hurling

  • Sing out Loud
  • Santa visited us
  • Maths week
  • Seachtain na Gaeilge
  • FAI 5-a-side blitz
  • Hurling 365
  • School Rounders Competition.
  • Wexford schools Rounders competition
  • 6th class v Staff Rounders match.
  • School Tourto name but a few!!!

As our website is up and running now we will be keeping the school community informed of upcoming activities, initiatives, celebrations etc and regular newsletters will be found here on the site.

Summer 2017

We had a wonderful day for the official opening of the new school extension on Thursday 15th of June. Bishop Brennan cut the tape along with Caitlin and Grace, our oldest and youngest pupils respectively. Boris helped the bishop to plant a tree and then we raised our Active Schools flag and our Digital Schools of Distinction flag. After that, we had a disco at the rear of the school. There was ice cream courtesy of our friends in Featherbed Farm (and it was delicious as always!) and two fabulous bouncy castles courtesy of our friends in Wexford Bouncy Castles. It was an amazing day and everybody had a whale of a time.

On a personal note, I will soon be finishing up as principal of Oylegate NS. It has been a privilege and a pleasure to serve the Oylegate NS community. I will bring many happy memories with me of the lovely children who are a credit to their parents, the warm and supportive parents, and the brilliant and professional staff. Go raibh míle maith agaibh.

What's Goin' On
